Tesco - profiteering by putting pressure on architects?
Tesco has come under fire from the construction industry business association ACE, which claims the supermarket giant is forcing its construction suppliers to cut fees by up to 40 per cent.
According to McLean Architects, one of Tesco's major construction contractors in Scotland, the supermarket chain made just such a request to them, ultimately resulting in a breakdown in negotiations. Could your company be next to be asked to "rise to the challenge"?
The Architects' Journal has been following this topic closely with special reports and interviews with company directors who have been affected by Tesco's demands. How is the supermarket giant going to respond to the increasing pressure from ACE, and will other supermarkets follow Tesco's example and start demanding similar reductions in professional service fees?
