Future Leaders 2008

What does it take to be a leader?

It’s a difficult question to answer at the best of times - an even harder one when you are put on the spot by a panel of some of your industry’s best and brightest.

That was only one of the ways we created to select the winners from the finalists of this year’s Future Leaders competition, organised by The Architects’ Journal, Construction News, QS Week and New Civil Engineer.

This was the second year we have run the competition and this was a bigger and more thorough test of some of the best young people from across the built environment. A series of written tests throughout January and February whittled down the original entrants to a shortlist of 40. This group then came in for interview. The result was four ‘sector winners’, one of which was Catherine Tallis from Mace, who was the overall winner.

Any awards scheme is only as good as its panel of judges, and the group who assembled last month to interview the finalists were a diverse and inspiring group, chaired by Alan Crane CBE. They asked the tough questions and set our hopefuls high standards to achieve.

This special supplement, brought to you by Architects’ Journal will give you inspiration - whether you are in the early stages of your career yourself, or if you are a senior manager interested in growing the next generation.
